GUIDED HIKING IN Bale Mountains
Bale Mountains
Bale Mountains National Park is an area of high altitude plateau with numerous spectacular volcanic peaks, stunning alpine lakes and mountain streams that descend into rocky gorges on and into the lowlands below. The vegetation changes with altitude, from juniper forests to heather moorlands and alpine meadows, which at various times of year are full of colourful wildflowers.
Bale Mountains National Park is the largest area of Afro-Alpine habitat in the whole of Africa. Visitors can organise mountain walking, horse trekking, scenic driving and will have the chance to view many of Ethiopia's endemic mammals, in particular the Mountain Nyala and Semien Fox, and birds, such as the Thick-billed Raven, Wattled Ibis, Blue-winged Goose, and Rouget's Rail.
Tours can be organised departing from Addis. Accommodation is in tents and meals are simple, but it is a chance to explore some of Ethiopia's beautiful wild spots.
